Car tax bands
The smaller the C02 emissions that your vehicle generates the smaller your car tax payment will be - motors that pollute the air the least are in the lowest grade called Band A and automobiles that have been proven to pollute the most rest in the highest grade called Band M. Road tax does not need to be paid on vehicles that qualify to be in the Band A bracket. A few of these are electric cars but all of them can be driven around London without paying the congestion charge. Cars in Band A include the Vauxhall Corsa ecoFlex, the VW Golf Bluemotion, the Audi A3 Start/Stop 99, the Peugeot 207 Economique, Ford Fiesta Edge and the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic. Registered keepers with vehicles in Band M have to pay the largest amounts, which measure up to an annual £450 in some cases. Road tax discs that last for six months can only be bought for cars in Band D and above. Brand new Band A, B, C and D cars will not be liable to pay for road tax for a 12 month period - after the one year mark registered keepers will need to pay.
